RELIEVING FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE

All Fuel Injected Engines

Any time the fuel system is opened for maintenance, the fuel system pressure must be relieved first. On fuel injected engines, there is pressure in the fuel lines even when the engine is not running.

  1. Start the engine.
  2. While the engine is running, disconnect the fuel pump or circuit opening relay connector(s).
  3. Allow the engine to run until it stalls.
  4. Reconnect the fuel pump or circuit opening relay connector(s).
  5. Proceed with the fuel system repair or service. Whenever a connection is loosened, use rags to prevent fuel leakage. If a line or connection is to be left open for an extended period of time, plug or cover it.
