ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

Air Cleaner

The air cleaner uses a disposable paper element on carbureted and fuel injected engines. The air filter should be replaced at least every two years or 24,000–30,000 miles (38,647–48,309 km). If the car is driven in a dry and dusty climate, clean or replace the air filter twice as often. Inspect the air cleaner element for accumulations of dirt and oil and wipe the air cleaner housing with a clean, lint-free rag. Replace the element as necessary.

If the engine is equipped with a carburetor, the air filter may be cleaned by blowing low pressure air through the filter, outward from the center.

NOTE: On fuel injected engines, do not attempt to clean the air filter with low pressure air.
