- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Note the installation angle of the wiper arm, then unfasten the attaching
nut from the end of the shaft and remove the arm.
- The rear wiper motor on the 323 may be located either behind a panel in
the rear hatch (hatchback) or behind the rear seat (sedan). Remove the door
panel or rear seat back, depending on the model.
- Detach the electrical connector. Remove the mounting bolts, then carefully
withdraw the motor. Slide the shaft straight through the rubber seal to avoid
damaging the seal.
To install:
- Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace the rubber seal if it is
damaged or worn.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Note the installation angle of the wiper arm, then unfasten the attaching
nut from the end of the shaft and remove the arm.
- Remove the panel from the inside of the rear hatch.
- Detach the electrical connector. Remove the mounting bolts for the motor
mounting bracket from the door. Remove the motor and bracket by carefully
pulling the motor toward you. Slide the shaft straight through the rubber
seal to avoid damaging the seal.
- Remove the attaching screws and transfer the mounting bracket to the new
motor.
To install:
- Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace the rubber shaft seal if
it has been damaged.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the rear wiper arm.
- Raise the rear hatch. Remove the rear hatch upper, lower and rear side trim
to expose the wiper motor assembly.
- Remove the rear hatch screen carefully so that it may be reused.
- Detach the rear wiper motor connector. Unfasten the attaching bolts and
remove the motor.
To install:
- Position the motor onto its mounting and install the attaching bolts. Connect
the motor wiring.
- Install the rear hatch screen. If the screen was damaged during removal,
replace it. Install the rear hatch trim and close the hatch.
- Install the rear wiper arm.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Test the wiper system for proper operation.
The wiper motor is located under the hatch.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the nut and separate the rear wiper arm from the motor shaft. Remove
the bushings, nuts and shaft seal from the wiper motor shaft.
- Raise the rear hatch and detach the wiper motor connector.
- Remove the attaching screws and lower the wiper motor unit from the mounting
plate.
To install:
- Position the motor onto the mounting plate and install the attaching screws.
Connect the motor wiring and close the hatch.
- If the shaft seal is worn or damaged, replace it. Install the motor shaft
seal, bushing and locknuts.
- Install the rear wiper arm and tighten the retaining nut.
- Connect the negative battery cable and check the system for proper operation.
