Neutral Safety Switch

ADJUSTMENT

  1. Apply the parking brake. Place the gearshift lever in the NEUTRAL position.
  2. Loosen the two switch mounting screws so that the switch can be rotated. Now, turn it so that the end of the operating lever is directly over the flange on the switch body. The holes in that flange and the outer end of the lever should align. Insert a 0.08 in. (2mm) diameter pin or drill bit through the two holes to perform the alignment.
  3. Hold the switch securely in place while torquing the mounting screws to 7.5–8.5 ft. lbs. (10–12 Nm). Remove the pin.
  4. Recheck the function of the switch by attempting to start the engine in all selector positions. It should start only in Park and Neutral.
