ADJUSTMENT

NOTE: This procedure applies to Navajo only.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  2. Remove the retainer washers from the lug nut studs and remove the manual locking hub assembly from the spindle.
  3. Remove the snapring from the end of the spindle shaft.
  4. Remove the axle shaft spacer.
  5. Remove the outer wheel bearing locknut from the spindle using locknut wrench 49 UN01 042 or equivalent. Make sure the tabs on the tool engage the slots in the locknut.
  6. Remove the locknut washer from the spindle.
  7. Loosen the inner wheel bearing locknut using the locknut wrench. Make sure the tabs on the tool engage the slots in the locknut and the slot in the tool is centered over the locknut pin.
  8. Tighten the inner locknut to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm) to seat the bearings.
  9. Spin the rotor and back off the inner locknut 14 turn. Retighten the inner locknut to 16 inch lbs. (1.8 Nm). Install the lockwasher on the spindle. It may be necessary to tighten the inner locknut slightly so the pin on the locknut aligns with the closest hole in the lockwasher.
  10. Install the outer wheel bearing locknut using the locknut wrench. Tighten the locknut to 150 ft. lbs. (203 Nm).
  11. Install the axle shaft spacer.
  12. Clip the snapring onto the end of the spindle. Install the manual hub assembly over the spindle and install the retainer washers.
  13. Install the wheel and tire assembly. Check the endplay of the wheel and tire assembly on the spindle. Final endplay should be 0–0.003 in. (0–0.08mm). The maximum torque to rotate the hub should be 25 inch lbs. (2.8 Nm).
  14. Lower the vehicle.
