ADJUSTMENTS

Free-Play/Pedal Height
EXCEPT NAVAJO

Fig. 1: Clutch pedal adjustment points

  1. Measure the distance from the top of the clutch pedal pad to the carpet. The distance should be as follows:
  2. If the distance is not within specification, loosen the clutch switch locknut and turn the switch until the distance is correct. Tighten the lock nut.
  3. Check the free-play by pressing the pedal by hand until clutch resistance is felt. The free-play should be 0.02–0.12 inch (0.6–3.0mm).
  4. If the free-play is not within specification, loosen the locknut on the actuator rod and turn the actuator rod until the free-play is correct.
  5. Check that the disengagement height from the upper surface of the pedal height to the carpet is correct when the pedal is fully depressed. The disengagement height should be as follows:
  6. Tighten the actuator rod locknut to 8.7–12.0 ft. lbs. (12–17 Nm).
  7. Recheck the pedal height. Certain models are equipped with a clutch assist spring. The spring is mounted on the clutch linkage, and is adjustable. The correct length should be between 1.33–1.37 inches (33.8–34.8mm). Adjust by turning the locknut.
