  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.

NOTE: The driveshaft is a balanced unit. Before removing the drive shaft, matchmark the driveshaft in relationship to the end yoke so that it may be installed in its original position.

  2. Using a shop cloth or gloves, pull back on the dust slinger to remove the boot from the transfer case slip yoke.
  3. Remove the bolts and straps that retains the driveshaft to the front driving axle yoke. Remove the U-joint assembly from the front driving axle yoke.
  4. Slide the splined yoke assembly out of the transfer case and remove the driveshaft assembly.
  5. Inspect the boot for rips or tears. Inspect the stud yoke splines for wear or damage. Replace any damage parts.
  6. To install, first apply a light coating of Multi-purpose Long-Life lubricant C1AZ–19490–B or equivalent, to the yoke splines and the edge of the inner diameter of the rubber boot. Position the U-joint assembly in the front drive axle yoke in its original position. Install the retaining bolts and straps. Tighten the bolts to 10–15 ft. lbs. (14–20 Nm). Install the remaining components in the reverse of removal.
