Before the linkage is adjusted, be sure the engine idle speed and anti-stall dashpot are properly adjusted.

  1. Position the transmission selector control lever in D position and loosen the trunion bolt.

NOTE: Make sure that the shift lever detent pawl is held against the rearward Drive detent stop during the linkage adjustment procedure.

  2. Position the transmission manual lever in the D position, by moving the bellcrank lever all the way rearward, then forward 3 detents.
  3. With the transmission selector lever/manual lever in the D position, apply light forward pressure to the shifter control tower arm while tightening the trunion bolt to 12–23 ft. lbs. Forward pressure on the shifter lower arm will ensure correct positioning within the D detent as noted in Step 1.

After adjustment, check for Park engagement. The control lever must move to the right when engaged in Park. Check the transmission control lever in all detent positions with the engine running to ensure correct detent transmission action. Readjust if necessary.
