- Raise and support the front end on jackstands.
- Check the fluid level and fill it, if necessary.
- Start the engine and let it idle. Turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock,
several times. Recheck the fluid level.
- Lower the truck to the ground.
- With the engine idling, turn the wheel lock-to-lock several times again.
If noise is heard in the fluid lines, air is present.
- Put the wheels in the straight ahead position and shut off the engine.
- Check the fluid level. If it is higher than when you last checked it, air
is in the system. Repeat step 5. Keep repeating step 5 until no air is present.
- Disconnect the coil wire.
- Crank the engine and continue adding fluid until the level stabilizes.
- Continue to crank the engine and rotate the steering wheel about 30°to
either side of center.
- Check the fluid level and add as required.
- Connect the coil wire and start the engine. Allow it to run for several
minutes.
- Rotate the steering wheel from stop to stop.
- Shut of the engine and check the fluid level. Add fluid as necessary.
