Hood

ALIGNMENT

Pickups and MPV

On self-supporting hoods, alignment can be adjusted front-to-rear or side-to-side by loosening the hood-to-hinge or hinge-to-body bolts. The front edge of the hood can be adjusted for closing height by adding or deleting shims under the hinges. The rear edge of the hood can be adjusted for closing height by raising or lowering the rear hood bumpers.

On hoods supported with a prop, alignment is accomplished by loosening the lock plate bolts and moving the lock plate up or down; side-to-side.

  1. Open the hood and match mark the hinge and latch positions.
  2. Loosen the hinge-to-hood bolts just enough to allow movement of the hood.
  3. Move the hood as required to obtain the proper fit and alignment between the hood and all adjoining body panels. When satisfactorily aligned, tighten the mounting bolts. To raise or lower the hood, loosen the hinge to body attaching bolts and raise or lower the hood as required.
  4. Loosen the latch attaching bolts.
  5. Move the latch from side-to-side to align the latch with the striker. Tighten the latch bolts.
  6. Lubricate the latch and hinges and check the hood fit several times.
