REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Navajo and 1994–97 B Series Pick-up

Fig. 3: Pressing the new stud into the hub

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  3. Remove the disc brake rotor. Be sure to properly support the brake caliper to avoid damage to the brake line hose.
  4. Position the disc brake rotor in a press so that press ram pressure is not directly exerted on the disc brake rotor surface.
  5. Using the proper press stock, press the lug stud from the disc brake rotor. Discard the lug stud. Remove the disc brake rotor from its mounting in the press.

    To install:

  6. Position a new lug stud in the disc brake rotor hole. Align the serrations of the new stud with the serration marks from the old lug stud.
  7. Using a hammer tap the lug stud until the serrations on the stud are started in the hole. Be sure that the lug stud is not installed in an off centered position.
  8. Reposition the disc brake rotor in the press so that the rotor is supported on the wheel mounting flange. Be sure to allow enough clearance for the stud to pass through the hole.
  9. Do not apply ram pressure directly to the rotor surface. Using the proper press stock, press the lug stud in position until the stud is flush against the inner surface of the disc brake rotor hub.
  10. Install the disc brake rotor. Reposition the brake caliper. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle.

    CAUTION
Retighten the wheel lug nuts to specification after about 500 miles of driving. Failure to do this could result in the wheel coming off while the vehicle is in motion possibly causing loss of vehicle control or collision.

MPV and 1998 B Series Pick-up
  1. Loosen the wheel lug nuts.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4. Remove the brake caliper, bracket and rotor.
  5. Use a wheel stud removal tool, such as C-clamp Assembly Tool T74P-3044-A1, and press the wheel stud out of the hub flange. A C-clamp and socket may also be used.

    To install:

  6. Insert the new wheel stud through the hole in the hub flange. Rotate the new stud slowly and ensure that the serrations are aligned with those made by the original stud.
  7. Place four flat washers over the outside end of the stud and thread the lug nut onto the stud with the flat side against the washers.

    WARNING
Do not use air tools as the serrations may be stripped from the wheel stud.

  8. Tighten the lug nut until the wheel stud head seat against the back side of the flange.
  9. Remove the lug nut and washers.
  10. Install the brake rotor, bracket and caliper.
  11. Install the wheel and snug all of the lug nuts.
  12. Lower the vehicle then tighten the wheel lug nuts to specification.
