Stabilizer Bar

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Navajo and B Series Pick-up Models

WARNING
If equipped, always turn off the Automatic Ride Control (ARC) service switch before lifting the vehicle off of the ground. Failure to do so could damage the ARC system components. Refer to Section 1 for jacking procedures.

  1. As required, raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the nuts, bolts and washers and disconnect the stabilizer bar from the links.
  3. Remove the U-bolts and nuts from the mounting bracket and retainers. Remove the mounting brackets, retainers and stabilizer bars.

    To install:

  4. Position the U-bolts and mounting brackets on the axle with the brackets having the UP marking in the proper position.
  5. Install the stabilizer bar and retainers on the mounting brackets with the retainers having the UP marking in the proper position.
  6. Connect the stabilizer bar to the rear links. Install the nuts, bolts, and washers and tighten.
  7. Tighten the mounting bracket U-bolt nuts to 30–42 ft. lbs.

Fig. 5: The sway bar link may be corroded to the metal sleeve. If this is so, secure the sleeve in a pair of locking pliers while using a box wrench to loosen the corrosion bond between the two components

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the stabilizer bar links from both sides of the stabilizer bar.
  3. Remove the stabilizer bar bracket and bushing from the axle and remove the stabilizer bar.

    To install:

  4. Install the bushing on the bar and install the bar finger-tight on the axle housing.
  5. Install the stabilizer bar links to the frame brackets.
  6. Lower the vehicle to the floor and tighten the stabilizer bar to axle bolts to 26–37 ft. lbs. (35–50 Nm).
