REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Raise and support the rear end on jackstands.
  2. Remove the wheels.
  3. Remove the caliper assembly.
  4. Remove the brake rotor/drum. If the rotor/drum is hard to come off, remove the service plug and turn the adjuster to loosen the shoes.
  5. Remove the upper and lower return springs.
  6. Remove the hold springs and pins.
  7. Remove the brake shoes, adjuster and disconnect the operating lever from the parking brake cable.

    To install:

  8. Connect the operating lever to the parking brake cable. The arrow on the operating lever should be facing the front of the vehicle.
  9. Compress the adjuster to its smallest possible size by screwing threaded part inward. Install the adjuster between the brake shoes. For the left wheel, install the adjuster with the threaded part facing the front; for the right wheel, towards the rear.
  10. Install the hold pins and springs.
  11. Install the upper and lower return springs.
  12. Install the rotor/drum. With the service plug removed, insert a flat bladed tool into the hole and turn the adjuster downward until the rotor/drum locks. Turn the adjuster 4–5 notches in the opposite direction to set the proper clearance. Verify that there is no drag on the rotor/drum and install the service plug.
  13. Install the caliper assembly.
  14. Install the wheels.
  15. Lower the vehicle. Properly bleed the brake system.
