REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the wiring from the harness.
  2. Remove the sensor hold-down bolt and remove the sensor from the axle.

    To install:

  3. Thoroughly clean the mounting surfaces. Make sure no dirt falls into the axle. Clean the magnetized sensor pole piece. Metal particles can cause sensor problems. Replace the O-ring.
  4. Coat the new O-ring with clean engine oil.
  5. Position the new sensor on the axle. It should slide into place easily. Correct installation will allow a gap of 0.005-0.045 in.
  6. Torque the hold-down bolt to 25–30 ft. lbs. (34–41 Nm).
  7. Connect the wiring.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Disengage the speed sensor wiring harness connector.
  4. Remove the wiring bracket retaining bolts.
  5. Lift the wheel speed sensor out of the axle housing.

    To install:

  6. Thoroughly clean the mounting surfaces. Make sure no dirt falls into the axle. Clean the magnetized sensor pole piece. Metal particles can cause sensor problems.
  7. Position the new sensor into the axle housing. It should slide into place easily. Correct installation will allow a gap of 0.0119–0.0433 in.
  8. Torque the hold-down bolt to 14–18 ft. lbs. (19–25 Nm).
  9. Install the retaining bracket bolts. Connect the wiring.
